The name Bumboras is derived from Bombora, an Australian Aboriginal word meaning an area of large sea waves breaking over a shallow area such as a submerged rock shelf or a reef. Bombora waves are attractive to surfers, and the waves off Bumboras Reserve (affectionately known as “Bumby”) are certainly that, as well as being one of Norfolk’s most beautiful and unspoilt beaches. The board walk is a beauty, and a visit to Bumby is a must do when you holiday on Norfolk Island.
